Dr. Shang Tao Shares Insights from China's 42nd Antarctic Expedition at the General Faculty Meeting

All faculty and staff of the Law School held a school-wide meeting in Conference Room A233 of the Law Building. The first item on agenda of the meeting was Dr. Shang Tao sharing his experience and gains from participating in China's 42nd Antarctic Expedition and visiting China's Great Wall Station in Antarctica in January 2026.

At the meeting, Dr. Shang Tao gave a presentation covering four aspects: itinerary arrangement, Antarctic habitat, expedition work and life at the station. He pointed out that Antarctica is one of the most one of the most pristine ecological sanctuaries on Earth, and its unique natural environment provides unparalleled conditions for scientific research. Scientific research activities on this continent also strictly abide by the environmental protection norms of the Antarctic Treaty System, striving to minimize the impact of human activities on the ecology. This profound awareness of ecological protection not only demonstrates Antarctica's unique governance practice as a "land of peace, cooperation and rules", but also deeply reflects humanity's awe and responsibility for nature.

Dr. Shang Tao also specially mentioned that during his stay at the Great Wall Station, the mutual assistance and cooperation among team members were touching, and the mutual support and solidarity between research stations of various countries conveyed a kind of warmth and respect beyond national borders. Whether facing the challenges of extreme environments or jointly advancing scientific exploration, Antarctic expedition team members have shown deep care for life, nature and the scientific community. This spirit is a true portrayal of building a community with a shared future for mankind.

Antarctic expeditions are not only an important practice of China's polar exploration cause, but also carry the lofty mission of "better understanding, protecting and utilizing the polar regions". As a faculty member of our school, Dr. Shang Tao represented the university to participate in China's Antarctic Expedition for the first time, and he is also the first social science scholar from universities in Jiangxi Province to embark on an Antarctic expedition. This is not only an important expansion of his personal academic experience, but also a vivid embodiment of the school serving the country's major strategies and delving into the frontline of scientific research. All faculty and students of the school feel sincere pride and honor for this, and this honor will also inspire more faculty and students to root themselves in their professional fields, strive for excellence, and fulfill the mission of serving the country through scientific research..
