Series Activities for the 45th Anniversary

of the Law School of Nanchang University

From October 18th to 19th ,2025, the series of activities celebrating the 45th anniversary of the Law School of Nanchang University were grandly held at the Qianhu Campus. Luo Sihai, Secretary of the Party Committee of Nanchang University, and Wu Dan, Member of the Standing Committee of the University Party Committee and Vice President, participated in relevant activities respectively. More than 360 people, including former leaders of the department, retired and transferred teachers, representatives of alumni from various sessions, and current teachers and students, gathered by the Runxi Lake to recall the extraordinary years, talk about the profound teacher-student friendship, and discuss the development of the college.

On the afternoon of the 18th, the anniversary celebration ceremony was solemnly held in the Concert Hall of Qianhu Campus. Luo Sihai, Secretary of the Party Committee of Nanchang University, attended the celebration, and Wu Dan,Member of the Standing Committee of the University Party Committee and Vice President, delivered a speech on behalf of the university. At 14:30, Hu Hua'ai, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Law School, presided over the ceremony and announced its start. The celebration officially kicked off with the solemn national anthem. All participants watched the special promotional video on the 45-year development journey of the Law School, reviewing the arduous and persistent struggle since the establishment of the Department of Law in 1980.

Subsequently, a flower-giving ceremony was held. Alumni representatives presented flowers to 28 representatives of senior teachers who have been dedicated to teaching and educating people since the establishment of the department, expressing their high respect and best wishes to the senior teachers.

Wu Dan, Member of the Standing Committee of the University Party Committee and Vice President of Nanchang University, delivered a speech on behalf of the university. Wu Dan introduced the development of Nanchang University, fully affirmed the remarkable achievements made by the Law School in discipline construction, talent training, and serving national and regional development over the past 45 years. He hoped that the Law School would anchor the goal of "Double First-Class Initiative" construction, continuously improve the quality of running the school, show greater achievements in striving to compose a chapter of Chinese-style modernization in Jiangxi, and make new and greater contributions to building a socialist country ruled by law with Chinese characteristics.

Li Tiansheng, Member of the Party Committee and Vice Dean (in charge of work) of the Law School of Nanchang University, delivered a speech on behalf of the college. He reviewed the 45-year arduous school-running course of the Law School of Nanchang University, summarized the brilliant achievements made in discipline construction, faculty team building, and talent training, and on this basis, looked forward to the future development of the college and proposed the short-term and long-term goals for the college's development. His speech in "three chapters" fully demonstrated the solid steps of the college's development and a clear plan for future development.

Yi Youlu, Dean of the Law School of Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics, on behalf of brother colleges and universities, extended warm congratulations on the 45th anniversary of the Law School of Nanchang University, and gave a special speech on the digital transformation of legal education in the context of artificial intelligence.

Zhai Yinhua (alumnus of Class 1982), Long Weiqiu (alumnus of Class 1985), and Li Ye (alumnus of Class 1996) delivered speeches successively as alumni representatives. They affectionately recalled and cherished the golden years of eagerly reading and diligently studying legal professional knowledge under the guidance of teachers during their school years, expressed their gratitude to their alma mater and teachers for their dedicated education and training, shared their growth experiences in the development of legal careers with junior and senior students, and put forward valuable suggestions and sincere expectations for them.

Three former deans who presided over the work of the college after 2000, namely Liu Xinxi, Li Ziping, and Yang Feng, delivered speeches successively. Dean Liu Xinxi (in office from 2000 to 2003) affectionately cherished the precious efforts and outstanding contributions made by senior teachers represented by Professor Hu Zhengye in the establishment of the Department of Law. He pointed out that the brilliant achievements of the Law School today are hard-won. While acknowledging the achievements, we should also recognize our own shortcomings, learn from well-known domestic law schools, continuously strengthen discipline construction, and promote the cause of the Law School to a new level. Dean Li Ziping (in office from 2003 to 2014) reviewed and summarized the development process of the Law School during his tenure around four aspects: college management model, achievements made, discipline construction, and scientific research work. He hoped that the college would cultivate internal skills, attach importance to connotative development, and wished the college successfully pass the evaluation of the first-level doctoral program in law. Dean Yang Feng (in office from 2015 to 2024) pointed out that the series of activities held to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the Law School are mainly to summarize school-running experience, gather alumni wisdom, and discuss career development. He conducted an in-depth analysis of the current development situation of the college, analyzed the main challenges faced, and put forward sincere suggestions and expectations for the future development of the college.

Zhou Weiyue, a undergraduate student of the 2023-level law major, expressed her blessings to the college on its 45th birthday on behalf of the current students. She said that she would take over the baton of history, live up to the expectations of the college, teachers, and seniors, and write a new chapter for Nanchang University legal professionals.

After the speech session, the school history release ceremony was held. Luo Sihai, Secretary of the Party Committee of Nanchang University, Cheng Yangguo, former Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice President of Nanchang University, Long Weiqiu, alumnus of Class 1985 and Dean of the Institute of Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences of Beihang University, and Yang Feng, Deputy Procurator General of Jiangxi Provincial People's Procuratorate and former Dean of the Law School of Nanchang University, jointly unveiled "The History of the Law School of Nanchang University (1980-2025)". Subsequently, all participants took a group photo to commemorate the brilliant 45-year school-running journey of the Law School.

At 16:30, the theme evening party celebrating the 45th anniversary of the Law School of Nanchang University, titled "Forty-Five Years of Glorious History, Inheritance of the Rule of Law", was wonderfully staged in the Concert Hall. Alumni and students of the Law School presented their talents around three chapters: "Inheriting Ancient Rhymes and Initiating New Voices", "Playing the Melody of the Times and Composing Youth", and "Praising the Aspirations of Mountains and Rivers and Celebrating the Motherland". The evening party featured diverse and exciting programs, bringing a visual and auditory feast to all participants and pushing the atmosphere of the anniversary celebration to a climax again and again. This evening party was not only the grand finale of the celebration activities but also demonstrated the profound cultural heritage of the college and the youthful vitality of young students. After the theme evening party, an anniversary dinner was held at the Qianhu State Guesthouse. Teachers, students, and alumni gathered together to talk about teacher-student and classmate friendship, and the atmosphere was warm and enthusiastic.

On the morning of the 19th, the ceremony for awarding outstanding alumni and visiting professors of the Law School of Nanchang University was grandly held in Conference Room A433 of the Law Building. Hu Hua'ai, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Law School, successively awarded "Outstanding Alumni of the Law School of Nanchang University" certificates to 8 alumni including Long Weiqiu, and appointment letters to 24 visiting professors including Xu Zheng.

The forum themed "Rule of Law in China, Alumni Walk Together" and "The Development of the Law School and the Training of Practical and Outstanding Talents" was successfully held in the Moot Court of the Law School. The forum was hosted by Li Tiansheng, Member of the Party Committee and Vice Dean (in charge of work) of the Law School. A number of outstanding alumni were invited to put forward suggestions on the development of the Law School and the training of legal talents. More than 100 teachers, students, and alumni participated in the forum.

Six guests in the first group focused on practical teaching and faculty building to give speeches and share experiences. Liu Xinxi, former Dean of the Law School of Nanchang University and Professor of China University of Political Science and Law, affirmed the achievements made by the Law School over the past 45 years, but pointed out the shortcomings in advantageous disciplines and leading talents. He proposed that we should focus on "training practical legal talents" and promote the construction of the Law School itself from three aspects: reform of teaching content, innovation of teaching methods, and construction of college culture. Kuang Aimin, former Vice Dean of the Law School of Nanchang University and Professor of Minzu University of China, emphasized that the Law School should attach importance to the construction of the faculty team, steadily expand the scale of teachers, especially focus on introducing middle-aged backbones and young doctors, and at the same time strengthen the process assessment of students' social practice to continuously consolidate the foundation of talent training in the college. Deng Xinghua, alumnus of Class 1982 and Senior Partner of Beijing Shanggong Law Firm, proposed that we should promote the in-depth integration of artificial intelligence and legal education, establish a special studio for researching the integration model of AI and legal teaching, and continuously reform and improve the teaching model and evaluation mechanism. Zheng Weimin, alumnus of Class 1983 and Senior Partner of Beijing Dacheng (Shenzhen) Law Firm, combined with his many years of legal practice experience, emphasized that legal education should be in line with national policies and social reality, encouraged students to focus on self-growth, and said that Beijing Dacheng (Shenzhen) Law Firm is willing to serve as a teaching practice base for the Law School to provide support for the practical ability training of the college's students. Xu Jianzhang, alumnus of Class 1984 and Founding Partner of Jiangxi Yuzhang Law Firm, shared his insights and suggestions on three aspects: students should enhance their sense of pride in the college, make good use of library and lecture resources, and treat artificial intelligence rationally. Long Weiqiu, alumnus of Class 1985, Distinguished Professor of Changjiang Scholars, and Dean of the Institute of Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences of Beihang University, suggested vigorously introducing teachers with practical experience, strengthening practical training in theoretical courses, and continuously improving students' comprehensive quality.

Six guests in the second group focused on moral integrity and discipline characteristics to give speeches and share experiences. Zhang Huaping, alumnus of Class 1985 and Director of Jiangxi Qiuzheng Word (Pingxiang) Law Firm, emphasized that "moral integrity and conduct" are the fundamental of legal professionals, suggested improving the internship system, and paying attention to students' physical and mental health. Zhou Yun, alumnus of Class 1987, former teacher of the Department of Law, and Director of Beijing Deheng (Dongguan) Law Firm, centered on three key words: "trust, professionalism, and experience", and advocated that the college should strengthen the training of students' trustworthiness and service awareness. Yang Bin, alumnus of Class 1993 and Presiding Judge of the Trial Supervision Tribunal of Jiangxi Provincial Higher People's Court, pointed out that Xi Jinping Thought on the Rule of Law should be integrated into the whole process of education, develop characteristic disciplines in combination with Jiangxi's regional advantages, and pay attention to cultivating students' physical and mental quality and pressure resistance. Ye Ping, postgraduate alumnus of Class 2002 and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of "Jiangxi Social Sciences" of Jiangxi Academy of Social Sciences, emphasized that thesis writing ability is the "hard currency" for law students, and suggested setting legal thesis writing as a compulsory course. Zhang Jiheng, postgraduate alumnus of Class 2004 and Deputy Director of the Legal Research Center of Jiangxi Science & Technology Normal University, shared his scientific research experience, suggested that the college should strengthen the training of academic talents, and each graduate student should strive to form a personal research direction. Zhou Jianda, alumnus of Class 2003 and Deputy Director (in charge of work) of the Graduate Work Department of Zhejiang Police College, from the perspective of public security education, proposed that we should strengthen the loyalty to the rule of law, strengthen ideological management, and build a discipline system combining national strategies and Jiangxi characteristics.

Six guests in the third group shared their own growth experiences and reflections. Liu Jincai, postgraduate alumnus of Class 2004 and Founder of Guangdong Pingao Law Firm, combined with his interactive teaching experience, pointed out that legal literacy should be internalized in the heart and externalized in action, and encouraged junior and senior students to persist in and focus on professional learning. Shen Xiaojun, alumnus of Class 2004, Director of Sichuan Shouyao Law Firm, and President of the Law Branch of Nanchang University Sichuan Alumni Association, put forward the concept of "understanding law + understanding entities", suggested that students should have more contact with practical departments, and improve their professional abilities in combination with local industries. Zhao Xinhong, alumnus of Class 2006, Deputy Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Vice President of Xunyang District People's Court in Jiujiang City, reviewed the gains during his university years and suggested that the college should cultivate compound talents who can participate in social governance and cutting-edge technology. Zhang Haibao, postgraduate alumnus of Class 2011, Founder and Director of Jiangxi Hechang Law Firm, and 2025 New Era Ganpo Pioneer, put forward reflections on "change and invariance" in the AI era, emphasizing that law students should maintain the unchanging concept of justice and expression ability, and continuously strengthen the construction of non-trustworthy ability and mental resilience. Tu Zhihong, postgraduate alumnus of Class 2015 and Senior Partner of Shanghai Zhonglian (Nanchang) Law Firm, suggested expanding the scope of practical tutors, offering AI courses, attaching importance to humanistic education, and emphasizing that "AI cannot replace humanistic insight". Huang Zunya, alumnus of Class 2015 and Legal Manager of Shenzhen Eason Technology Co., Ltd., combined with his personal growth experience, emphasized that we should make career choices suitable for ourselves, and encouraged students to be self-reliant and repay society.

The entire forum was filled with a warm atmosphere. Alumni guests put forward rich, diverse, and practical suggestions on issues such as the development of the Law School, faculty building, training of practical legal talents, and the integration of artificial intelligence and law, providing valuable suggestions with both practical warmth and ideological depth for the college's talent training and students' career development.

Forty-five years of forging ahead, forty-five years of fruitful achievements. This series of anniversary activities have comprehensively summarized school-running experience, deeply condensed alumni strength, and extensively gathered wisdom from all parties, injecting strong momentum into the connotative and high-quality development of the Law School. Taking this celebration as an opportunity, all teachers and students of the Law School will keep in mind the mission of cultivating talents for the Party and the country, continuously deepen the reform of education and teaching, strengthen the characteristics of practical talent training, and make unremitting efforts to cultivate more high-quality legal talents with both virtue and law.
