On November 11, 2025, the 16th "Qianhu Graduate Lecture" Graduate Academic and Cultural Festival·Learned Forum (Phase 31) of Nanchang University was successfully held in the Moot Court. This forum specially invited Professor Hu Yunteng, Second-Class Grand Judge of the Supreme People's Court, Member of the Advisory Committee of the Supreme People's Court, and President of the Case Law Research Association of the China Law Society, to give an academic lecture titled "On the Value of Judicial Procedure". The lecture was hosted by Vice President Chen Shifa, and attended by more than 150 people including Professor Luo Sihai, Secretary of the University Party Committee, Professor Zhang Zetao, Professor Liu Xiaohu, and teachers and students of the Law School.

At the beginning of the lecture, Professor Hu Yunteng got straight to the point, emphasizing that procedural justice is the core pillar of judicial justice. He said that under the background that China's characteristic socialist legal system is basically improved, the effective implementation of procedures is the key to the rule of law taking root. Combining typical cases in judicial practice, he pointed out the prominent problems such as procedural violations and reductions existing at present, and analyzed the impact of China's long-standing traditional concept of "valuing substantive justice over procedural justice" on judicial practice, making teachers and students deeply realize the urgency and importance of strengthening procedural awareness.

In addition, Professor Hu also interpreted the rich connotation of judicial procedures from multiple perspectives such as case-handling organs and parties, further explaining the five core attributes of judicial procedures: legality, openness, enforceability, exclusivity, and independence. Combining practical scenarios such as death penalty review and second-instance court sessions of criminal cases, he deeply analyzed the important value of procedures in absorbing social dissatisfaction, safeguarding the remedy of rights, and preventing the abuse of power.

In the interactive question-and-answer session, teachers and students present actively asked questions around issues such as the role of judicial procedures in social governance and the reform of the death penalty system. Combining his own academic research and judicial practice experience, Professor Hu patiently answered each question one by one, putting forward distinctive views such as "cases are real research carriers" and "procedural justice promotes the improvement of social governance", providing strong guidance for teachers and students' study and research.

At the end of the lecture, Vice President Chen Shifa expressed his sincere thanks to Professor Hu Yunteng for his wonderful sharing. He pointed out that this lecture has both theoretical height and practical depth, which not only sorted out the core logic of judicial procedures but also analyzed the cutting-edge issues of reform, building an academic bridge connecting theory and practice for teachers and students, and having important reference significance for future academic research and legal practice.
