The development of criminal jurisprudence should not be a self-referential exercise in criminal law theory, but must be based on the solution of constantly emerging real-life problems. Whether it is the promotion of compliance by judicial authorities in involved enterprises, the adaptation of criminal law to the information age, or the transformation of penal perspectives in the context of modern social governance, various legal challenges continue to emerge. These forefront issues present new challenges for legal theory and judicial practice, thus warranting ample discussion and research value. Therefore, on July 2, 2023, the academic seminar on "The Development of Criminal Law from the Perspective of Chinese path to modernization" was jointly organized by the Zunyi Law Society and Zunyi Normal University in Zunyi City, Guizhou Province.

The participants included scholars from prestigious universities such as Renmin University of China, East China University of Political Science and Law, Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, Nanjing University, Nanchang University, Guizhou University, Xiangtan University, Yunnan University, Tongji University, and Inner Mongolia University. Judicial practitioners from institutions including Chengdu People's Procuratorate in Sichuan Province, Dejiang County People's Court in Guizhou Province, Guizhou Qianying Law Firm, and Guizhou Zefeng Law Firm also attended the seminar. Professor Xiong Yongming from our institute fully participated in the event. He presented his paper titled "Research on the Phenomenon of Repetition in Criminal Law Provisions" and delivered a lecture at the conference, covering the manifestations of duplicative legislation in criminal law, the analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of duplicative criminal law provisions, the reasons behind such duplications, and the fundamental principles for reducing duplication in criminal law legislation.
