On June 28th, 2023 at 9:30, the lecture titled "Exploring Cutting-edge Issues in the Modernization of Criminal Justice in China" was successfully held at room A233. This event was organized by the Social Sciences Department of Nanchang University, the Law School of Nanchang University,the Research Center for the Construction of the Rule of Law in Jiangxi Province, the Educational Legislation Research Sub-center of the Jiangxi Provincial Legal Education Research Center.  The Graduate Students’ Association of the Law School at Nanchang University is responsible for the execution of this event.

Professor Fang Chongyi, who enjoys the Special Government Allowance from the State Council for outstanding contributions and is among the "Hundred Law Scholars Shaping China's Rule of Law Construction," delivered the lecture. He is a first-level professor at China University of Political Science and Law, honorary dean of the Research Institute of National Legal Aid at China University of Political Science and Law, honorary dean of the Institute of Procedural Law at China University of Political Science and Law, distinguished chief expert and doctoral supervisor at Beijing Normal University. He concurrently serves as an adjunct professor at the National School of Administration, the National Prosecutors College, and the National Judges College.The lecture was chaired by Professor Yang Feng from the Law School of Nanchang University, with faculty and students from the Law School in attendance.

Starting from the perspective of judicial modernization, Professor Fang Chongyi emphasized the main directions of current theoretical research in legal studies. He then delved into various topics, including "Several Issues in China's Judicial Modernization," "Governance of minor offences," "The Relationship between Discipline Inspection and the People's Procuratorate," "Improvement of the Criminal Defense System," "Judicial System Reform Centered on Trials," and "How to Strengthen the Rigorous Development of Supervision and Proposals from the People's Procuratorate". Professor Fang Chongyi focused on the governance of minor offences, raising thought-provoking questions such as the classification between minor and serious crimes, the establishment of a criminal conciliation system in China's Criminal Procedure Law, and the mechanisms of criminal liability and guilt acknowledgment, which sparked profound reflections among the faculty and students present.

After Professor Fang Chongyi's enlightening presentation, Professor Yang Feng delivered a summary speech on behalf of the faculty and students of the Law School. The students asked questions based on their expertise, receiving thorough answers from Professor Fang. The atmosphere during the session was vibrant and active. At the end of the lecture, Professor Fang Chongyi took a group photo with the faculty and students of the Law School as a memento. The lecture concluded to enthusiastic applause.
